It was New Year’s Eve 2019, watching the sunset on a beach in Maui…

I was feeling discouraged - we’d been trying to start our family for what felt like so long, getting crushed month after month.

Per our tradition we set last New Year’s Eve on the very same beach, my husband and I did a @the_wild_unknown animal spirit tarot card reading for the upcoming year.

We laid out 12 cards for each month, and then it was time for the center card: the theme of the year ahead.

I pulled a lamb - a symbol of peace, hope, and patience.

Flash forward to the next month - I was pregnant with our little lamb. During my labor, this card was framed in the hospital room as a reminder to be strong. And when I ended up having an emergency c-section, one of the first songs playing in little T’s life was Willie Nelson’s “Someone To Watch Over Me” — with the words “I’m a little lamb lost in the woods… I know I’ll always be good to someone who’ll watch over me…”
