✨ tips for adjusting to a NEW sibling ✨

the third trimester is right around the corner, and I’ll soon be a mom of 2 girls (!) - so I’m doing all the research I can to make sure this adjustment goes as smoothly as possible for my 3 year old…

here are some things we’re doing/planning on:

🌸 she’s a big part of baby prep: we talk through any questions she has (“yes don’t worry, the baby won’t fall into the toilet when mommy goes potty” 🤭), we read lots of books about new babies + big siblings, she helped set up the bassinet and pick out sheets, etc

🌸 we plan to keep her in her normal routine of school and activities so there isn’t a sudden jarring change to her daily schedule (this means signing her up for summer school!)

🌸 when she first meets baby in the hospital, we plan to have baby in the bassinet and my arms free to hug HER first - we’ll also have a special gift for her “from baby”

🌸 we will try our best not to use the baby as the reason she can’t do things > “I know you want to go to the park! Let’s play together in the yard and we can go to the park in an hour!” vs “we can’t go to the park because the baby is napping”

🌸 we will tap into her natural desire to be a big helper (+ have control) with grabbing diapers, choosing baby’s outfits etc but will try to calmly respect her feelings if/when she doesn’t want to be involved or needs a baby break

now this is where I need YOUR HELP > pleaseeee drop your best tips on helping older kid(s) adjust to a new sibling. Lord knows I’m gonna need it! 🙈

and PS how sweet is this custom sibling set? Matching snugglers are also a great way to welcome a new baby + make big sis or big bro feel special! ✨
